Age Verification Policy

Important: PIONEER is intended for users aged 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect or process personal data from individuals under 16 years of age.
1. Minimum Age Requirement
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account and use the PIONEER fitness platform. This age requirement is in place to:
- Comply with UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 requirements for processing children's data
- Protect minors from inappropriate content or interactions
- Ensure users can legally consent to data processing, including health data
- Reduce risks associated with unsupervised physical exercise by minors
2. Why 16+?
We have chosen 16 as the minimum age for the following reasons:
2.1 Legal Requirements
- UK GDPR Article 8: Individuals aged 16+ can provide consent for processing their personal data without parental consent
- Health Data Protection: Our Service processes special category data (health and fitness data), which requires explicit consent
- Contractual Capacity: 16+ is the age at which individuals can enter into most contracts under UK law
2.2 Safety Considerations
- Physical exercise carries risks that require maturity and judgment
- Nutrition guidance requires understanding of individual needs and health status
- Community features may expose users to advice or content that requires critical evaluation
- AI-generated advice requires the ability to distinguish between general information and medical advice
3. Age Verification Process
During registration, you must:
3.1 Provide Date of Birth
- You must enter your accurate date of birth in the registration form
- Our system automatically calculates your age based on the date provided
- If you are under 16, registration will be rejected
3.2 Dual Verification
We implement two layers of age verification:
- Client-Side Verification: Real-time age calculation and validation as you enter your date of birth
- Server-Side Verification: Independent age verification on our servers when you submit the registration form
Both checks must pass for registration to succeed.
3.3 Audit Logging
All registration attempts, including age verification failures, are logged for compliance and security purposes. Logs include:
- Timestamp of registration attempt
- IP address
- Age verification result
- Browser user agent
4. No Exceptions
We do NOT make exceptions to the 16+ age requirement. Even with parental consent, we will not register users under 16. This is because:
- Processing health data from minors requires enhanced safeguards we do not provide
- Physical exercise programs are designed for adult physiology and fitness levels
- Our Service is not designed with age-appropriate protections for minors
- We do not have parental consent verification mechanisms in place
5. Misrepresentation of Age
Providing false date of birth information is prohibited. If we discover you provided false information to bypass age verification:
- Your account will be terminated immediately
- All data will be deleted within 30 days
- No refunds will be provided for paid subscriptions
- You may be permanently banned from creating future accounts
6. Discovery of Underage Users
If we discover or are notified that a user is under 16:
6.1 Immediate Action
- Account will be suspended immediately
- User will be notified of suspension via email
- Access to the Service will be revoked
6.2 Data Deletion
- All personal data will be deleted within 30 days
- Health and fitness data will be permanently removed
- User-generated content will be anonymized or deleted
- Account recovery will NOT be possible after deletion
6.3 Notification
- The account holder will be notified of the deletion
- If parental contact information is available, parents will be notified
- We will provide information about how data was processed and deletion timeline
7. Reporting Underage Users
If you believe a user is under 16, please report it immediately:

Include: User's profile name or email, reason for suspicion
We take all reports seriously and will investigate promptly.
8. Special Category Data and Minors
Under UK GDPR Article 9, health and fitness data is classified as "special category data" requiring explicit consent and enhanced protection. For individuals under 16:
- Processing health data requires parental consent
- Additional safeguards must be in place to protect minors
- Data minimization principles apply more strictly
- Regular reviews of necessity and proportionality are required
PIONEER does not implement these enhanced safeguards, which is why we do not permit users under 16.
9. Age-Appropriate Design Code
While PIONEER is not designed for children, we acknowledge the UK Age-Appropriate Design Code (Children's Code). Our 16+ age requirement exempts us from most provisions, but we still commit to:
- Data minimization and privacy by design
- Transparent data practices
- No profiling or targeting of users under 18 (if they create accounts at 16-17)
- Parental controls for users aged 16-17 (upon request)
10. International Users
Some countries have different age requirements for digital consent:
- EU Member States: Age of consent ranges from 13-16 depending on country
- United States: COPPA requires parental consent for users under 13
- Other Countries: Various age requirements may apply
Regardless of your country of residence, PIONEER's minimum age is 16. We apply this requirement globally for consistency and safety.
11. Young Adults (16-17 Years Old)
While users aged 16-17 can create accounts, we recommend:
- Discussing fitness goals and health status with parents or guardians
- Consulting with a doctor before starting exercise programs
- Involving parents in monitoring workout intensity and progression
- Being aware of growth-related considerations in training
11.1 Parental Notification (Optional)
Parents of users aged 16-17 may request:
- Notification of account creation
- Access to account activity summaries
- The ability to request account deletion

12. Data Processing for 16+ Users
For users aged 16 and older, we process data as described in our Privacy Policy, including:
- Account information (email, name, date of birth)
- Health and fitness data (workouts, nutrition, biometrics)
- Usage data (app interactions, features used)
- Content you create (posts, comments, photos)
You have full rights under UK GDPR to access, rectify, erase, or port your data at any time.
13. Turning 16
If you are currently under 16 and interested in joining PIONEER when you turn 16:
- You may register once you reach your 16th birthday
- Your date of birth will be verified during registration
- All Terms and policies will apply from the date of registration
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Age Verification Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by:
- Posting the updated policy on the Service with a new "Last Updated" date
- Sending an email notification if you have an account
- Displaying a prominent notice in the app
Your continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
